Sabado de Gloria

Holy week is well observed in the Philippines...We have what we call "pabasa", it is a poetic rendition of the life, passion and resurrection of Christ. The marathon reading usually starts Maunday Thursday, it is done non-stop until noon of Holy Friday. In our neighborhood, they use a megaphone to make everybody stay awake...it makes it holy if you are able to understand every words they are reading...but because of the buzzing sound and very deep Kapampangan words it makes it more like a penitence for everybody. We also do the "Visita Iglesia" where we visit 7 churches. However, in Pangasinan, i remember we do the Visita Iglesia after the death of Jesus Christ...it usually starts Friday night. Also, we only visit one church and do the vigil.

In San Fernando, there is a renactment of the crucifixion where tourists all over the world come to witness. You will also see a lot of people on the road who are doing the penitence for the repentance of their sins. It's really a bloody site.

Black Saturday or what we call the "Sabado de Gloria" is the time for Filipino family to get together and enjoy the beach because we believe that when we take a bath during this day in the beach, all illness will be cured. So we decided to go to the beach in Subic at Kamayan Beach Resort.
